New alert system announced by DHS

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is replacing the color-coded homeland security advisory system with the new National Terrorism Advisory System, or NTAS. This new system will provide timely, detailed information about threats to the nation's security.

According to DHS, NTAS Alerts will only be issued when credible information is available. Alerts will include concise summarsy of the potential threat, information about actions being taken to ensure public safety, and recommended steps that individuals, communities, businesses and governments can take to help prevent, mitigate or respond to the threat. Protecting and ensuring the continuity of the critical infrastructure and key resources (CIKR) of the United States are essential to the nation's security, public health and safety, economic vitality, and way of life.

The CIKR section has been added to increase the baseline capabilities of the TEW as we continue to provide and enhance the Kansas City region with analytical and response "tools" in times of critical incidents.

Our website now includes specific information relative to CIKR and the Asset Protection and Response System (APRS).
